THE INSURNO GUIDEBOOK

Understanding comprehensive car insurance

A comprehensive or package motor policy generally combines third-party liability with cover for specified loss or damage to your own car. “Comprehensive” does not mean every event or every repair bill is covered.

Compare more than the final premium

Ask for a written quotation with its component costs. Place it beside the policy wording so that you can see what is included and what is optional.

  • What insured declared value (IDV) is being used?
  • What deductible or contribution would you pay on a claim?
  • Which exclusions or vehicle-use restrictions apply?
  • What repair network and claim assistance does the insurer offer?
  • Which add-ons have been selected, and what conditions apply to each?

Make a comparison sheet

Create a column for each quotation and a row for each question above. Leave unanswered fields blank and ask for clarification rather than assuming that two similarly named products are identical.

Before giving your approval

Check the vehicle and owner details, dates, selected options and contact information on the proposed documents. Keep the final version, not just a screenshot of the price.
